Regents came out of an initial design by David and me on the car ride back from GenCon 2023. David wanted to see if we can make a war game that combines elements of trick-taking and deck building. I was intrigued because I generally dislike trick-taking games but recently found one that I really liked — Brian Boru: High King of Ireland by Peer Sylvester.

Daniel had mentioned that Dire Wolf was looking to make a game in the Wheel of Time universe and we brought her in to collaborate on the project.
